On September 26, 2006, the Institute of Museum and Library Services announced the 2006 National Leadership Grant recipients. The Walker Art Centerand the Minneapolis Institute of Arts were awarded a grant to enhance the ArtsConnectEd Web site (http://www.artsconnected.org). You may view the entire project proposal in the Grants & Reports section of the site.
ArtsConnectEd, originally launched in 1998, is an online resource for teachers and their students. ArtsConnectEd provides access to images, information, and classroom resources from both institutions. The goal of the multi-year grant project, “ArtsConnectEd2,” is to improve and expand upon the site’s functionality. This will be accomplished by developing new online tools that empower museum educators and classroom teachers to manage and create educational content.
The new site architecture and user tools will be created using nonproprietary open source solutions. These replicable solutions will beshared with the museum field so that other institutions may adopt aspects ofthe project for their own educational work. We encourage your to visit the sites Research & Findings and List of Links and Forum sections to keep up to date on the project as it develops.
This grant award will allow the successful partnershipbetween the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to continueto grow. The increased flexibility of the new ArtsConnectEd will allow it tobetter meet the needs of current and future audiences.
