ArtsConnectEd IMLS-Funded Project Complete |
|
Since 1998, artsconnected.org has provided K-12 teachers and their students access to images,
information, and classroom materials from its two partner institutions, the Walker Art Center and
the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA). In 2006, IMLS awarded the partnership a $287,125
National Leadership Grant to create a dynamic, open-source site incorporating new web-based
technologies and core capabilities as defined by its active stakeholders—museum educators and
classroom teachers. The three-year project would:
- Improve and expand ArtsConnectEd functionality;
- Empower museum educators and classroom teachers to create and manage educational
content from museum assets through new online tools, and;
- Redefine the relationship of museum educators to both their institutions and the K–12
education community.
The ArtsConnectEd partnership is pleased to report that these goals were accomplished. Through
its redesign artsconnected.org has become an innovative model for how museums can adopt new
technologies to best meet educators’ needs. |

ArtConnectEd IMLS Project |
On September 26, 2006, the Institute of Museum and Library Services announced the 2006 National Leadership Grant recipients. The Walker Art Centerand the Minneapolis Institute of Arts were awarded a grant to enhance the ArtsConnectEd Web site (http://www.artsconnected.org). You may view the entire project proposal in the Grants & Reports section of the site.
ArtsConnectEd, originally launched in 1998, is an online resource for teachers and their students. ArtsConnectEd provides access to images, information, and classroom resources from both institutions. The goal of the multi-year grant project, “ArtsConnectEd2,” is to improve and expand upon the site’s functionality. This will be accomplished by developing new online tools that empower museum educators and classroom teachers to manage and create educational content.
